Development of 22 Local Govt.Institutions under Pura Neguma

The government has allocated over Rs. 10 billion to develop a number of local government institutions in the northern and eastern provinces.In addition to the development in Northern and Eastern provinces, the Pura Neguma project will engage in the development of 22 local government institutions in the districts of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Puttalam, Kurunegala and Moneragala.

Under the Pura Neguma project, the government has allocated the Rs. 10.75 billion to develop 79 local government institutions in the conflict affected province.

The government will obtain a US$ 50 million loan from the International Development Agency of the World Bank foe the project. Australia will also provide nearly Rs.900 million for the project.

The primary objective of the project is to coordinate the measures on the regional and rural level to strengthen the local government institutions and to make the services more efficient.(ST/KH)
