    3,800 new teachers for upcountry schools

    The government will recruit 3,800 more teachers to promote the education in the upcountry plantation areas, Minister of Education Akila Wiraj Kariyawasam said in Parliament on Thursday.

    Answering an oral question raised by Parliamentarian Ranjith De Soyza, the minister also added that the government had allocated Rs. 250 million for the development of the schools in the upcountry areas in addition to the Nearest School is the Best School initiative.
