    Slight change in prevailing weather

    Met. Department says that a slight change is expected in the prevailing weather condition from tomorrow (25th April).

     

    According to the today’s weather forecast, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, North-western, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-central provinces and in the Vauniya district after 2.00 p.m.

     

    Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces during the morning.



    Temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers are expected and the public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning.

     

    Marine weather

     

    There is a possibility that sea will be rough, near shore and also in the low lying sea areas, off the coast extending from Puttalam to Batticaloa via Colombo and Galle.

     

    The above areas may experience sea surges until 24th April 2018 due to the effect of swell waves, having 2.5-3.0 m height (This is not for land area). This condition is expected to be reduced by today evening.

     

    Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo and Galle.

     

    Winds will be Southerly to South-easterly in direction in the sea areas off coast extending from Kankasanturai to Hambantota via Trincomalee and Batticaloa and Westerly to South-westerly in direction in the other sea areas. Wind speed will be 20-30kmph.
