The new electronic national identity cards will be issued from the year 2016. Relevant data is now being gathered through the Grama Niladaris for this purpose.
According to the Department of Registration of Persons, the new electronic NIC is applicable to foreign countries as well. A description of bio data of the holder is also included in this task.
Personal data of each card holder will be kept very confident at the department.
