The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology has planned to open 1000 E-nenasala Centres island wide before the end of this year. The Ministry launched the setting up of E-nenasala Centres to spread ICT services to the rural and semi-urban population and also to develop students' information technology knowledge.
The IT literacy rate which was four percent in 2004, has increased to 43 percent at present. The Government aims to increase this up to 75 percent by the year 2016.
