    September 19, 2017

The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that decisions taken by the health sector in Sri Lanka is an example for the entire world, says Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratna.

It has been said by the Director General of WHO Dr. Tedros Adhanom at a health ministers meeting of the South and East Asian Countries of WHO held in Maldives from 6th - 11th of September. The program started by the government to control non communicable diseases was highly appreciated by the WHO.

Introducing a colour code for soft drinks and steps taken to minimize the use of tobacco are among them. WHO is also paying attention to the fact that the country is providing a free health service by spending a lot of money for health services.

There are 842 Suva Divi Centers and 848 Suva Naari centers around the country and WHO has informed the government to continue these centers. WHO has identified Sri Lanka as one of the best countries taking decisions related to health services. By all these steps I hope that we will be able to reduce the non-communicable deceases upto 30 percent said the minister.
