    Seminar on Waste water Management Strategies for Sri Lanka

    Sustainable water management and sanitation is a precondition for a country’s development as it has a major impact on the living environment, economy, health, and social life. To address those major impacts The Central Environmental Authority, Coordinating Secretariat for Science Technology & Innovation, Nanyang Environmental & Water Research Institute Singapore, Board of Investment of Sri Lanka, National Water Supply & Drainage Board and the University of Peradeniya joined together to discuss & disseminate the idea of  appropriate waste water management Strategies.

    To fulfill the objective a knowledge sharing seminar on Development of Appropriate Waste water Management Strategies for Sri Lanka was held at Central Environment Authority (CEA) Auditorium recently.


    Eng. Nihal Somaweera Secretary, Ministry of Water Supply & Drainage, Wijayawantha Prathapasinghe, Chairman, Central Environmental Authority,  Prof. Ng Wun Jern Executive Director Nanyang Environmental & Water Research Institute Singapore, Prof. Leelananda Rajapaksha Dean, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Prof. Ajith de Alwis Project Director, Coordinating Secretariat for Science Technology & Innovation, were participated.


    On this forum they discussed & presented many methods & thoughts on waste water management. Well-developed methods that are used in Singapore was explained and illustrated by Prof. Ng Wun Jern.  With the rapid increase of industries in the country, this kind of seminar is an open forum to discuss the problems, lessons learnt and new innovations on water environment management and protection of water sources.


    Industry partners, Research Institute staff, practitioners from water sector were also participated for the seminar.  (SI/KH)
