    Power generation by Gliricidia commence

    National program to use Gliricidia as a source of energy was launched and 2,000 hectares of lands will be planted with Gliricidia plants as a self-employment venture, Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.

     

    He said that about 50 percent of energy requirement of the country can be fulfilled using bio-energy without causing any damage to the environment.

     

     This will be implemented by Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, UN Food and Agriculture Organization, and Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy as a combined project.
