There are about 60,000 student monks and lay students receiving education in 754 Pirivenas in the island and there was an emerging challenge of not being contemporarily updated knowledge in Pirivena education due to the reason of not updating the elementary Pirivena textbooks so far.

Accordingly, the activities of updating textbooks of all subjects relevant to the grades 1 to 5 in Pirivenas are being done under the instructions of the Director of Pirivena Education Ven. Prof. Nabiriththankadawala Gnanarathana Thera.
