The President was speaking at a ceremony to open the newly built cardiac and thoracic unit of the Cooperative Hospital of Galle yesterday (02ndJan).
He stated that the government is aware of the health problems caused by tourists.
“Reducing the price of drugs by passing the drug act in the Parliament is a victory achieved by the government for the health sector”, he said. He commended the contribution being made by the public sector as well as private sector to strengthen the health service in the country.
“The responsibility to strengthen the health service in the western medicine as well as in the indigenous medicine will be fulfilled according to the government policies”, he said.
He also emphasized that the government will fulfill its responsibilities to its best to eradicate Dengue.
The President opened the cardiac and thoracic unit unveiling the plaque and later he made an inspection tour of the unit.

The President also presented mementos to the members of the staff of the Hospital who completed a 20 year service period.

Ariyathilaka, the Chairman of the Southern Province Association of the Co-operative Hospitals, A.D.G. Sarathchandra and many others participated.
