The event was held giving prominence to religious observances. After the hoisting of the national flag and singing the national anthem, those gathered observed two minutes of silence in memory of the fallen War Heroes. Subsequently, ministry's staff took the Government Servant's Oath.

 

Making his new year address, Secretary Hettiarachchi noted the Ministry's future vision and objectives for the year 2017. He requested all to strive towards achieving national goals which includes reconciliation, development and to eliminate poverty. Secretary also extended his New Year wishes to all. Later all those present joined in to partake a traditional breakfast.

 

Secretary to the State Ministry of Defence Mr. APG Kithsiri, additional secretaries, distinguished invitees, Military Liaison Officer and a large number of MoD staff were present at the occasion.
