Deputy Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife Sumedha G. Jayasena said that World Bank has promised to grant 42 Million US $ for the Environmental System Management and eco- friendly tourism promotion programs. This program called ESCMP will be launched by the Department of Wildlife Conservation within the next 03 months.
One of the main programs under this would be establishment of elephant conservation zones. She further said preliminary studies are being conducted in Southern and Uva regions of the Department of the Wildlife Conservation.
Deputy Minister made these comments at the District Progress Review meeting held at the Monaragala District Secretariat to prevent wild elephant threat within the Monaragala District.
