An amazing creation from the Port employees Featured

    September 01, 2016

Sri Lankan Ports Authority, Container Operations Maintenance Division has created a Low Bed Trailer, which is used for transportation of containers by using discarded materials of the port.

Two employees of the Port Rohana Kumara and A.K.D. Rasuru have constructed this new creation within a period of three months.

Minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranatunga yesterday released the low bed trailer for operations at the port at an auspicious time. Chairman of the Ports Authority Dammika Ranatunga, Operation Director of the Ports Authority Jayantha Perera also participated.

“We have skilled and talented employees. If we work together as one, our port can be developed further than it is now. I don’t run away after I take on a responsibility. Even if mud campaigns are carried out against me or even if I have many issues, I will not let down my responsibilities and let anyone laugh at the President or the Prime Minister. The President and the Prime Minister handed me the Port because they had the confidence and because they trust me. I will maintain that trust always”, Minister Ranatunga stated.

The normal trailers which are used for transportation of containers are capable of carrying 35 tonnes. But the low bed trailer which was created by the employees of the port is capable of carrying 60 tones. Average trailers can only carry 9 foot height cargo but another specialty is that this low bed trailer can carry 20 foot height cargo. The excellent design recognition plaque was also transacted.
