    Food Safety week begins Featured

    A total of 137 shops have been prosecuted on the first day of the Food safety week which commenced yesterday (22).

     3212 shops, eateries, and hotels were checked while 131 raids were also conducted. 1722 bottles of drinks which were sold without the color coding systems introduced recently were asked to be returned to the relevant companies by the Public Health Inspectors (PHIs).

     

    During the day 31 eateries catering to outstation passengers were also checked. It was revealed that the food items were not stored in hygienic conditions while there were no sanitary facilities for the passengers.

     

    On the first day 1881 food items were destroyed.1800PHIs have been deployed around the country for this program. Tonight all eateries in the vicinity of outstation bus halts as well as eateries catering to outstation passengers will be checked.

     

    This program is directly monitored by Director General Health Services Dr. Palitha Mahipala.
