It was a joint Cabinet paper by Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Faiszer Musthapha.
“A large number of furniture destroyed in floods has been accumulated as wastes in public spaces. For the disposal of waste accumulated in Kotikawatta and Mulleriyawa areas as of May 30, it has been estimated that tractors should be deployed for about 470 turns. These wastes may cause health issues and should be disposed immediately. However, the Local Government Authorities have no sufficient resources to be deployed to clear the wastes,” the cabinet paper stated.
It has been decided to deploy 10 sets of equipment under the supervision of officers in the Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry and the Disaster Management Ministry for the purpose.
