According to the National STD/AIDS Control Program in Sri Lanka, 13 young males between ages 20-25 are among them. “It is a serious issue of young men infected with HIV,” the Director of the program Dr. Sisira Liyanage pointed out.
Out of the reported 85, the highest number of infections are reported between the age group between 25 to 40.
Unsafe sexual interactions with the prostitutes and the male homosexual behaviours have caused an increase of those infections. Males infected with HIV are highly reported than the females, Dr. Liyanage added.
The labours in working sites are also vulnerable for HIV and several programs will be implemented to make them aware.
