    April 11, 2016

Sixty eight percent of patients admitted to hospitals suffer from Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs), Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said.

Dr. Senaratne said the rapidly increasing NCDs is the main health issue faced by Sri Lanka.

The Health Ministry has given priority to addressing this matter. The Government Medical Officers' Association has extended its fullest support towards this task, the minister said addressing the 68th anniversary celebration of the WHO in Colombo.

Dr. Senaratne said the World Bank has provided funds to control NCDs in Sri Lanka and there is no issue in connection with funding.

NCD prevention and control program has commenced from the level of schoolchildren. The pilot project was launched at Royal College, Colombo recently, he said. (CDN)
