    Journalists cannot escape from writing the truth

    Journalist has no ethical right to prevent from keeping the readers and listeners informed with information.

     

    According to the Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilake, the journalists in today society have to face many challenges and difficulties while engaging in their career.

     

    Minister stated this addressing the “Deli Pihiyen Kiri Kema-2”, the media discussion held at BMICH yesterday (4th April) with the participation of the intellectuals, politicians, Journalists, artists, and university and school students.

     

    “Public expect the truth from the journalists for the well-being of the country. Although, the independence of journalism is challenged by rupees and cents”, minister said. Changing the media culture, not using a proper language, and lack of the training on their career were pointed out as some of the challenges faced by the media.

     

    Prof. Carlo Fonseka delivered the key note address and Dr. Ranga Kalansuriya compered the session. Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Karunarathne Paranawithana also expressed his views on the subject.

     

    A considerable number of suggestions were made and questions were raised on a wide array of practical issues.
