“Dry weather conditions experienced in the country in the past few months lead to decline in the water levels in the reservoirs. So, the capacity of hydropower plants went down. Sri Lanka is affected with a power crisis after the country experienced three total blackouts within three months along with the dry weather conditions. The government has taken a decision not to go for more coal power plants beyond Norochcholai and Sampur, and shift to renewable energy, Deputy Minister added.
