The Yovun Pura Camp revived after a lapse of 27 years under the advice of the Prime Minister will be held with a mixture of new technology.
It will be an oasis which will promote discipline, personality, leadership and educational qualities of youth of both sexes, NYSC chairman and Director General W.P.S. Erandika said.
All activities of the camp would be handled by a Municipal Council of which Radhika Jayalath of Matale district will function as the Mayor.
He was selected from among a group of 52 youth who arrived in Sigiriya on March 17.
Jeewan Saman Kumara of Polonnaruwa district will be the Deputy mayor and 62 others will serve as members of 10 committees.
Erandika in a communique issued stated that advance groups representing districts which arrived at the Sigiriya SLAF complex on March 20 had started putting up tents to establish the identity of their respective districts.
A group of 120 youth from foreign countries too would participate in the camp giving opportunities for local youth to promote international relations.
The camp will feature employment opportunities, educational exhibitions and lectures, sports and entertainment, street drams, motorcar shows, Armed Forces and Police displays, adventure sports, martial arts shows, shramadana activities and expeditions.
Youth would also gain opportunities to act as announcers in the SLBC's Yovun Pura radio service.
The camp opening ceremony will be held on March 30 at 5.30 p.m. under the patronage of Prime Minister's Chief of Staff, Law and Order and Southern Development Mininster Sagala Ratnayake on the invitation of Deputy Minister Niroshan Perera.
The concluding ceremony will be held on April 2 at 5.30 p.m. under the patronage of President Sirisena and Prime Minister Wickremesinghe.
