The Health Ministry has taken a decision to re-commence its special educational and awareness raising programmes on HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) etc. aimed at politicians, political leadership at National and Provincial level, state officials and the public.
According to Director General of Health Services Dr. Palitha Mahipala, a special awareness programme was conducted in Kuliyapitiya on HIV/AIDS and a media briefing will be held on Friday (March 11) on the same issue.
The awareness programmes conducted in Kuliyapitiya was not sufficient to drive home the message about the spread of AIDS, especially in connection with the incident of the school boy who was humiliated due to a rumour about being HIV positive.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
