The Health Ministry will open thirteen blood banks in March. It is expected to enable island wide blood transfusion by storing blood and blood tissues that can be used in the case of emergencies, Health Ministry said.
The blood banks will be set up at blood transfusion centres at the Dehiattakandiya Base Hospital, Mahiyangana Hospital, Maha Oya Base Hospital, Kalmunai South Base Hospital, Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, Kuliyapitiya Base Hospital, Chilaw General Hospital, Mahawila Base Hospital, Vavuniya General Hospital, Trincomalee General Hospital, Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, Tangalle Base Hospital and the Ratnapura Hospital.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
