On the instructions of President Maithripala Sirisena, the Ministry of Justice has taken steps to appoint all Grama Niladharis officially as Justices of Peace.
The programme is being implemented based on the powers vested in the Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa according to Clause 45 of the Judicature Act No: 2 of 1978.
The decision taken by the Justice Ministry has been made public in a gazette notification issued on the 18th of Feabruary.
Accordingly, every Grama Niladhari who is serving on a permanent basis will officially become a Justice of Peace within his Divisional Secretariat Division.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
