According to the RDA, the Central Expressway is divided into four stages, with the first stage from Kadawatha to Mirigama, second stage from Meerigama to Kurunegala, the third stage from Pothuhera to Galagedara and also with the fourth and final stage, he added.

The funding for the first stage was from China, second stage was from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) while the funding for the third stage was from local banks.

By the mid of 2016, RDA will commence work on the third section.
