The project commenced under the direction of the Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa on the advise of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to solve the problems of nearly 1.3 million people living in 26 Secretariat Divisions of 12 electorates in the Badulla and Monaragala Districts.
Eighteen thousand four hundred and eighty three (18,483) villagers, 184 people’s representatives, representatives of 780 community organizations, 18 NGOs, 42 private entrepreneurs and 4489 officials of 35 Government Ministries attended the 46 mobile services held until June 13.
According to Monaragala District Secretary A. Padmanathan and Badulla District Secretary Rohana Dissanayake most of the problems relating to issuing of birth, marriage and death certificates, National Identity Cards, passports, requests for spectacles, walking aids, wheel chairs, lands, housing, health, agriculture, fisheries and animal husbandry were solved by the mobile services held in the Uva Province last week.
With the success of the Mobile Services held in the Kegalle, Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts, they have been extended to the Badulla and Monaragala Districts in the Uva Province, tGalle, Matara and Hambantota in the Southern Province and to Ratnapura District.
The highest public participation had been noted in programs on health clinics, maternal and child nutrition, food preparation, beauty culture, prevention of drug addiction, shramadana and religion and the environment.(KH/SI)
