    Many religious events to mark 68th Independence Day

    Parallel to the main celebrations of the 68th Independence Day, an all-night Pirith chanting ceremony will be held at Independence Square in Colombo today from 10.00 p.m.

    Vice Chief Prelate of the Shyamopali Mahanayake of the Malwathu Chapter Maha Vihara Most Ven. Niyangoda Dharmakirthi Sri Sangarakkhitha Vijithasiri Thera and the Mahasanga will conduct religious observances on the invitation of Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara Thera, Chief Incumbent of Hunupitiya Gangarama.

     

    A Sangika Dana will be held at Ganagarama Temple, Hunupitiya on February 3.

     

    Buddhist religious observances will also be held at Polwatta Dharmakeerthyarama Temple, Colombo, Hindu religious observances at Sir Ponnambalawaneswaran Kovil, Colombo 13, Islamic religious observances at Jumma Mosque, Maradana, Roman Catholic religious observances at All Saints' Church, Borella and Christian religious observances at the Christian Reform Church, Wolfandhal on February 4 at 6.30 a.m in line with the Independence Day celebrations.
