    Sri Lanka Tourist arrivals up 17.8-pct in 2015 Featured

    Sri Lanka’s tourist arrivals were up 17.8 percent with 1,798,380 million visitors recorded in 2015, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka said. December 2015 arrivals grew 15.4 percent to 206,114 from a year ago.

    The top five sources of tourist arrivals during 2015 were India, China, UK, Germany and Maldives, accounting for 50.0 percent of the total tourist arrivals during the year



    Indian arrivals grew 30.3 percent to 316,247 in 2015 from the year before, with December arrivals rising 35.5 percent to 35,437, China, came second with arrivals in 2015 up 67.6 percent to 214,783 while in December visitors grew 52.3 percent to 15,843 in December 2015 from a year ago, Sri Lanka Tourism data revealed.

     

    Western European arrivals grew 15.3 percent to 552,442 in 2015 from the year before with arrivals from the United Kingdom rising 12.3 percent to 161,845 in 2015.


    The cumulative earnings from tourism increased to US dollars 2,862.9 million during 2015 compared to US dollars 2,431.1 million recorded during 2014, according to Sri Lanka Tourism data
