According to the Progress report of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, following projects are to be implemented in addition to electric train project.

- Installation of a new signaling system between Maradana - Rambukkana, Matara - Beliatta , and Maradana - Wadduwa

- Introduction of new ticketing system

- Import Passenger compartment and oil tanks

- Improve rail way between Mahawa and Vavuniya

- Installation of an internal container yard
