Plans to revive teledrama quality and standards Featured

    November 20, 2015

The Ministry of Parliament Reforms and Mass Media has drawn plans to bring back artistic quality and standard to tele-dramas and attract the audience that shows rapid move away from their favorite telelvision medium. Minister of Parliament Reforms and Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilaka said at the ceremony to award certificates to Sri Lanka Media Training Institute (SLMTI) awardees, that took place at the Government Information Department today (20).

“An immediate solution is needed for this dangerous trend which has given way to so many unethical practices affecting the art, culture and accepted family norms", Minister said.

At the beginning a teledrama episode received a 25 minute time slot and there were some advertisers who did not wish to advertise in the middle of a teledrama as it would disturb the audience and affect the work of art, But today in a complete contrast the teledrama time has also been reduced.

“The television channels has blatantly violated the advertising ethics and almost destroyed the artistic form of the teledrama. This has unfortunately resulted in talented professional teledrama directors leaving the medium. As soon as possible we will bring back artistic quality and standard to teledrama to steal away the audience", minister added.
