A 3-day mosquito control programme was carried out by the Health Ministry from November 12-14 in Colombo, Kalutara and Gampaha districts in the Western Province. According to the Ministry 62,079 premises had been inspected and notices had been issued to 2566 persons while taking steps to institute legal action against 443 persons.
According to statistics, 23,139 dengue patients have been reported to date during the year 2015. Dengue cases reported in the months of August, September and October are 1591, 1091 and 1961 respectively. Accordingly in October an increase in dengue cases can be observed said the National Dengue Control Unit and added that 750 cases of them were from the Colombo District.
Although as a whole there is a decrease in dengue patients, the main objective of this 3-day Dengue Control programme was to control the rise in dengue cases in the Colombo District, the Health Ministry said.
The programme was conducted by the Ministry of Health, National Dengue Control Unit and the Presidential Taskforce for Dengue with the assistance of the Public Health workers, dengue control committees, the Police and the Tri-Forces.
