Army averts catastrophe by opening Jammed Sluice Gate of Iranamadu Tank

    November 17, 2015

Nine members of the Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) of the Security Force's Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) succeeded in averting a catastrophe on Monday (16) evening by opening one jammed sluice gate of the Iranamadu Tank in response to an SOS appeal of the engineers at the Kilinochchi Irrigation Department.

It had all happened when irrigation engineers decided to open the Iranamadu Tank sluice gates as water levels were fast reaching spill levels, but they had suddenly found that one of the major gates could not be opened since it had got unexpectedly jammed.

Sensing the disastrous consequences that might follow, engineers had acted fast and got in touch with the SFHQ-KLN requesting immediate assistance of the troops if possible. Major General Amal Karunasekara, Commander, SFHQ-KLN had immediately instructed nine SLE troops to take up the challenge and move to the place in no time and help the engineers.

Finally, the troops managed to open the sluice gates and let spilling waters flow out.
