    November 17, 2015

In response to the requests made by the Divisional Secretariat of Pooneryn and Nachchikuda police, the naval personnel attached to SLNS Buwaneka in Nachchikuda and the Rapid, Response, Rescue, and Relief Squadron (4Rs) personnel attached to SLNS Pandukabhaya in Poonewa promptly assisted civilians to cross the flooded bridge on Mannar- Jaffna main road (A32) at Mandagal Aru on Sunday and Monday (15, 16).

Accordingly around 700 people who had arrived from Jaffna and Mannar were able to continue their journey using the facilities provided by the Sri Lanka Navy. In addition, the life savers of the Navy extended their assistance to ensure the safety of the civilian boat.

The SLN team, which was under a naval officer, consisted of life savers, divers, Engineering Mechanics and Medical Assistants to meet any contingencies during the relief operation, the Navy Media reported.

The Navy’s assistance to maintain the day-to-day activities of the civilians in the area was highly appreciated not only by the people who were able to cross the flooded-bridge safely but also by the Divisional Secretariat of Pooneryn, who was impressed by the Navy’s prompt response.
