    Use of Mobile phones to be banned in UVA schools

    The use of mobile phones during school hours will be prohibited for teachers at schools within the Uva Province with effect from January next year, the Chief Minister of the province Chamara Sampath Dassanayake said.

    He stated that information has been received that certain students also bring mobile phones to schools and that he has instructed relevant school principals to take proper action regarding the matter in the near future.

     

    Speaking during an event at the Thaldena Navodya Maha Vidyalaya in Wiyaluwa, the Chief Minister stated that teachers will be instructed to switch off their mobile phones and place them at the Pprincipal’s office during school hours.

     

    He said that school Principal’s telephone number can be provided as a means to contact the teachers during this time period in case of emergencies.

     

    Dassanayake also warned that teachers should be prepared for a transfer if they are caught using mobile phonse during school hours.


    He said that no student will be allowed to use mobile phones at school and that the responsibility of school girls will be entrusted to a woman.
