At a special meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers presided by President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday, it has been decided to revoke all agreements with the private security company Avant-Garde Maritime Services.

After the meeting, the Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Rajitha Senaratne expressing views to reporters said that the President had conducted a very clear discussion with all the parties involved. He said the Navy Commander who was present at this meeting clearly laid out the repercussions of these agreements with Avant-Garde and had informed the President that the Sri Lanka Navy is fully capable of carrying out the same operations directly.

He said the President had decided to cancell all contracts with Avant-Garde and henceforth the Sri Lanka Navy would conduct the same operation. All weapons currently with Avant-Garde will be handed over to the Navy, the Minister added.
