    November 01, 2015

The government has taken steps to provide a strengthened and developed public health care system in the country by providing a free health service irrespective of each citizen's affordability.

Accordingly it is expected to implement a number of projects related to curative services, hospital aids, specialist services, human resource development and improve infrastructure within the 2016/2018 midterm budgetary framework.

Almost 100% of preventive services, 90-95% of in-patient services and about 50% of out-patient services are being provided by health care institutions maintained through public funds.

The new government has taken a policy decision to give priority to improve the health sector by allocating 3% from the GDP in 2016 where the allocation in 2015 was 1.8%.

The proposal made by Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Rajitha Senaratne in this regard was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
