A feasibility study on construction of a 10km railway line would commence based on the recommendations of the Steering Committee which had been appointed with the participation of Transport Ministry, Sri Lanka Railways and Urban Development Authority officials, Sri Lanka Railways Operations Superintendent Vijaya Samarasinghe said.
He further said that this railway project will cater to over 20,000 government servants who travel to an from Battaramulla daily as most of the government institutions are now located in Battaramulla.
"The Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau of Sri Lanka (CECB) will provide the consultancy service to construct the railway line and the government will also look into the possibility of electrifying this stretch of the railway network,”he added.
