The government's Integrated Road Investment Programme is implemented with the view of improving the road connectivity within selected rural centers by rehabilitating national, provincial, local authority and feeder roads.
The program expects to rehabilitate 3,108 kilometers of rural roads and 248 kilometers of national roads with an estimated cost of US$ 906 million.
The ADB will provide US$ 800 million of the estimated cost and the Government of Sri Lanka should bear the rest.
The project is implemented in Southern, Sabaragamuwa Central, North Central and North Western provinces and in Kalutara District of the Western Province.
The proposal made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to enter into relevant agreements for obtaining the funds of US$ 200 million from the ADB, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
