The Transport Ministry has taken action to hold a special training course on behalf of drivers under the programme of providing a special permit to drivers of passenger transport buses. It will be organized as a two day workshop.
This workshop will be launched by the Motor Traffic Commissioner’s Department in collaboration with the National Transport Commission. It is hoped to impart this training to around 40,000 passenger transport bus drivers spread throughout the country.
The Transport Ministry said that initiatives had already been taken to grant training to 500 drivers. Another stage of this programme kicked off under the patronage of Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva in Colombo yesterday. Knowledge is being imparted to main facts such as first aid, attributes possessed by a driver and ethics.
The Motor Traffic Commissioner’s Department pointed out that a special license can be obtained by drivers who will be successful at the examination that will follow the training, through the payment of a sum of 2000 rupees.
