Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena said in Parliament today that his ministry had commenced a programme to appoint qualified principals to all schools by December 31, this year.
The Minister said so in response to a query raised by UNP Hambantota District MP Sajith Premadasa.
Minister Gunawardena said that a commission chaired by Mahinda Madihewa has been appointed to look into the alleged irregularities taken place in granting promoting teachers since 2008. “We cannot appoint principals on political needs. All appointments should be approved by the Public Service Commission,” he added. (Special Reporter/HC)
