    China donates new sanitation facility to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic

    Chinese Ambassador Yi Xianliang was invited to attend the turn-over ceremony of a new sanitation facility in Sri Lanka’s most prestigious Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.


    The new sanitation facility, which is the largest and most advanced facility of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, is granted by China and built by China Hunan Construction Engineering Group. It includes public toilets and supporting facilities.


    Ambassador Yi said that China and Sri Lanka shared profound traditional friendship, and the Buddhist cultural exchange was not  interrupted since Faxian came to Sri Lanka on a pilgrimage for Buddhist scriptures.


    From January to August 2016, nearly 200,000 Chinese citizens traveled to Sri Lanka. The holy city Kandy and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic were the most well-nown tourist attractions.


    The new sanitation facility serving the public including Chinese tourists had a great significance in promoting the friendship between the people of the two countries.


    China has always attached agreat importance to Sri Lanka's economic and social development, and would  provide assistance within its capability.


    Pradeep Nilanga dela, Chief Custodian of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, highly appreciated the continuous assistance from the Chinese government and people. As one of the largest tourist attractions in Sri Lanka, the temple faced the challenge of shortage of sanitation facility for a long time. The new sanitation facility was the testimony of the friendship between Sri Lanka and China, and would help the temple solve the problem and improve Kandy’s tourism infrastructure.
