    CAA raids exceed 10,000

    Sri Lanka’s Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has conducted over 10,000 raids in the first half of 2016; an increase of 55% compared to last year.

     

    The highest monthly raids have taken place during pre-New Year season; in March at 1,874 while the lowest were in June1, 468.

     

    The three leading districts raided this year were Kurunegala (1,464), Kegalle (1,305) and Kandy (1286). The lowest raids were reported from Hambantota District (680).

     

    During the first half this year Rs.45.7 million fines were collected, an increase of 55% compared with 2015.
