    Thai expects new investment opportunities in Sri Lanka

    A Thai delegation headed by Executive Director of Thai Office of BoI, Werapong Siriwon met the Secretary to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC) T.M.K.B.Thennakoon on Monday (29th February).

     


    The seven-member delegation is visiting Sri Lanka to study the country’s SME sector and investment climate. This was the first time a Thai officials are here to study Sri Lanka’s rapidly changing industry and investment outlook.

     


    The officials have identified Sri Lanka’s rubber industry & products, fisheries industry and sea-foods have high opportunities for Thai investors.

     

     

    Secretary Thennakoon highlighted the Free Trade Agreements with India and Pakistan allowing over 8,000 locally made products to be exported tariff free, which the Thai investors could make use of by investing in Sri Lanka. “It is time to look at trade expansion as well”, he added.

     


    According to the Secretary Thennakoon, tourism, high-tech manufacturing for export, infrastructure, telecommunications, primary and alternative energy sectors, agriculture and agro-based industries, pharmaceutical industries, gems and apparel are the Sri Lanka’s key investment sectors.
