Ministry of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media is taking the initial measures to have a state award ceremony for the media sector and is organized to felicitate the talents and abilities of journalists’ with the intention of creating a responsible media sector.
The award ceremony considering the criticisms of previous award ceremonies will protect the international standards and independence. A committee comprising of state and private sector media representatives will determine the classification of awards and criteria.
The award ceremony will felicitate print and electronic media creations pertaining to the year 2015 and is open to every media institution.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
News.lk publishes in three languages – Sinhala, Tamil and English.
