The President gave these instructions during a special meeting held yesterday (30) at the Presidential Secretariat, to discuss ways to provide solutions for the issues that arise due to the prevailing weather conditions. All the Ministry Secretaries as well as the Heads of the Institutions who belongs to the Ministry of Water Supply, Irrigation, Mahaweli, Health and Wildlife participated in this meeting.
During the meeting the President advised the relevant authorities to keenly engage in the process of preventing numerous threats for the villagers from wild animals entering villages in search of water and in providing solutions for the drinking water issue as well as in preventing the spread of diseases due to the dry weather conditions.
He also pointed out the importance of implementing a broad water supply project to minimize the vulnerabilities arising in the future due to these kinds of natural disasters. President Sirisena further stated the significance of releasing lands for the necessary projects like proving drinking water for the public and releasing water to irrigation canals by the relevant authorities without any hesitation.
During the meeting it was also discussed regarding the holding of medical and mobile services to apprise the public on steps that they should take to prevent the drought related diseases as well as the steps that should be taken in unexpected illnesses.
President Maithripala Sirisena said that the people should follow a more animal-friendly method to minimize the danger for them from wild animals when they enter villages in search of water. He also explained the officials about the importance of a comprehensive study on the necessity of villagers and the safety of the wild animals in the process of building an electric fence.
