    Visit affected areas at least once a week - President requests MPs

    President Maithripala Sirisena has stressed the importance of MPs visiting the disasters affected areas at least once a week to look into the welfare of the people and to ascertain their requirements.

     

    He gave these instructions during the Kegalle District Coordinating Committee meeting held yesterday (1st June) in Kegalle.

     

    The President also instructed the officials to expedite the land identification and the resettlement processes of the displaced persons in relevant districts.

     

    Following the instructions of the President, a Committee will be appointed to look into the quality standard of the houses being constructed. Committee is expected to submit a report within three days.


    According to the President, a resolution will be presented to the Cabinet for the approval to obtain the support of the Tri-Forces to build necessary constructions, schools and hospitals.

     

    During the meeting the attention was also drawn on providing compensation for the small and medium entrepreneurs, issues of the students in affected areas and on immediate steps to relocate the schools in vulnerable areas.

     

    The discussions were also held in detail to implement a Joint Psycho-social Support Programs for the benefit of the children in the affected families and a Joint Advisory Service for the benefit of affected adults and to develop the infrastructure facilities to restore the lives of the victims.

     

    Ministers Anura Priyadarshana Yapa , Lakshman Kiriella , Rauff Hakeem , S.B. Dissanayake , Sajith Premadasa , Ranjith Siyambalapitiya , Secretary to the President P.B. Abeykoon, and Defence Secretary, Karunasena Hettiarachchi were also present.
