President Maithripala Sirisena laid the foundation stone for the new data center of Sri Lanka Telecom using the digital technology in a ceremony held at the President’s house, Colombo on Monday (01).
He also declared open the SEA-ME-WE 5 cable system via the digital technology, which has been established in Matara for the purpose of increasing the speed of the internet.
Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure, Harin Fernando, Ministers Susil Premajayantha, Nimal Siripala de Silva and others participated in this event.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
