The Minister made this observation joining the second reading of the budget debate in Parlimanet today (30).
This access is very important. Many during the Budget, debate on several matters, but no constructive criticisms are presented. The United National Party could have formed a government alone. But the intention was to form a national government, to prepare a long term socio-economic policy. Even the Prime Minister said that the country would get developed if we follow a long-term socio-economic policy, Minister Harsha de Silva pointed out.
"There should be balance between the economic freedom and social cooperation in achieving sustainble development goals. The people should be given a chance to move forward through self effort. This should be the method. We have achieved success through self efforts", he added.
It is essential to maintain low inflation. This could be maintained through Financial controls.
Sustainability depends on productivity. It is not only the public servants but private sector employees too contribute for the country's development. Therefore without categorizing, a pension should be given to both public and private sector employees, Deputy Minister Harsha de Silva further said.
