Petroleum Ministry vigilant on the fuel supply

    May 29, 2017

Ministry of Petroleum Resource Development will set up a Disaster Management Unit to continuously supply fuel to the areas affected by the adverse weather. The Unit will be set up with the intention of identifying the issues related to the distribution of fuel and coordinating all the institutions under the Ministry.

Meanwhile, the Petroleum Resource Development Minister Arjuna Ranathunga yesterday (28th May) advised to continuously supply fuel to flood affected areas.

At yesterday’s meeting it was revealed that there was a shortage of fuel in the areas of Walasmulla, Middeniya, Matara, Kirama, Hakmana, Angunakolapalassa, Ambalantota, Galle, Ruwanwella, Horana, Kithulgala, Daraniyagala, Thalangama and Kolonnawa.

The Distribution Manager of CPCSTL M.T.W. Bandara said that the requirements of the Tri forces have already been dispatched to the required places.

The minister further said that steps should be taken to dispatch fuel under any circumstances.  He advised CPCSTL to draw up a plan together with the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) to face any situation.

“In the event we are not ready to face a disastrous situation our fuel distribution will be unsuccessful. Already there is no access to some filling stations while some others are submerged in water. We have taken steps to supply fuel using alternative ways and roads”.
