The existing old shopping complex which was destroyed in fire accident will be rebuilt into a modern commercial complex at a cost of Rs. 100 million. Once completed the new commercial facility will have 24 shops. The project will be handled by the Urban Development Authority and is scheduled to be completed within six months.
Speaking at the occasion Mr. Rajapaksa said the project is being carried out upon a request made by Hon. Minister Thondaman. Work is carried out under the direction of the President who has issued instructions for the speedy completion of the project. A large number of development projects have been initiated in many parts of the country since the President took over the Ministry of Urban Development. Development work carried out in Colombo enabled it to be compared with that of other world class cities he said. He expressed his happiness to be able to assist in making Pundaluoya in to a beautiful town.
Further speaking Mr. Rajapaksa said not only the commercial complex but the surrounding areas will also be developed and requested the people to present their views for further improvements. He told those gathered that measures will be taken to enhance public amenities of the town for better use of facilities by the people.
He stressing the need to work towards maintaining the hard won peace and said that the President is working with total commitment in this regard. He expressed confidence in the continued support of the people in carrying out all development work in the future as well.
Religious dignitaries, Hon. Minister Arumugam Thondaman, provincial council members, Chairman of the UDA, local council members and a large number of people were present at the occasion. (MoU)
