The sluice gates of the Deduru Oya and Rajangana Reservoirs have been opened. The eight spill gates of Deduru Oya have been opened by four feet each, while 12 sluice gates of the Rajangana Reservoir have also been opened. Low lying areas in Nikaweratiya, Maho, Bingiriya and Chilaw are under water following the opening of the sluice gates of Deduru Oya.
The water level at the Eluwankulama drop structure along the Puttalam-Mannar road was 32 inches. As such it was decided to shut down this drop structure. Also by this morning the water in the Inginimitiya Reservoir was reaching the spill level. (ST/KH)
